Letter to BEIS regarding its consultation on extending the number of energy intensive industries that are partially exempt from energy policy costs

Our response to BEIS consultation of extending EII exemptions 279 KB

Consumers pay for a wide range of energy policies through their bills.  Some energy intensive industries are currently partially exempt from some of these that relate to paying for renewable generation.  The government is consulting on widening that exemption, so that more companies qualify. While this would reduce the energy bills of eligible businesses, it would increase energy bills for households and small and medium sized businesses who would not qualify.

In our response to the consultation, we expressed concern that the case for widening the exemption had not yet been made.  We also commented on a range of areas regarding the design of the scheme.
